most of the isp's here in ireland are in some way all tied to eircom. so if you want to get a good deal and NOT share your connection with hundreds of other users go to chorus/ntl or Magnet

http://www.magnet.ie/

http://www.upc.ie/

with these isp's you do NOT have to share your connection and will always have stable speeds. I know this from experience :) good luck.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for dropping around and thanks for the ideas.

* security - can be easily implemented
* CAPTCHA - will be added to the next update (already done but not finished)
* characteres counter - there is an option to add javascript to the end of the field (e.g. onfocus, etc) which can call a JS function
* email - that's done already in my sample as for DB has to be done manually by the user as there is no way to know the DB name, table name and fields....

ANyway, once againg thanks for the good points.

Hi Louie,
interesting idea, some ideas for maybe your next version ...

* a security check to make sure that the submission URL is from the same domain
* CAPTCHA support
* field length limiting
* text box effects (character counter for limited forums / textarea resize to always have a blank line)
* ability to email form results, or store in a DB

Hi - Smart Telecom = WIN

I have 24mb with them unlimited and not contended like eircom madness for the past 2 years and it is rock solid. They offer 24mb for 24 euro if you are VAT registered.

Hope that helps! :)

<b>Follow up on my Broadband issue with Eircom.</b>

Any time you call Eircom Business support, after going through all the steps, you get put on-hold and a nice voice telling you to check the support on-line.
The Question:<strong> How can I do this if I don't have Broadband?</strong>

Anyway, I decided to contact them using the online form (while the internet is on) and sent the following email:
<blockquote>
I am entirely sick of Eircom broadband.
I am supposed to run a business here and having too many internet issues (for the last 2 weeks) stopes me from doing so.

Every day after 4:00 PM the broadband goes down and it takes ages before I could re-connect. This issue lasts up to 7:00 and even 9:00 PM.
I called the support (business) and I was told that there are too many connections at the same time to the server, the reason I keep loosing the internet, but let me tell you, that answer its not acceptable.

Last week I called again and despite the fact that I told the customer service there is nothing wrong with my wires here, an Eircom maintenance guy knocked into my door few days later - which after explaining what the story was, I send, he said that he will escalate the issue future, but never heard from anyone since.
My broadband is fine all day until 4 PM in the afternoon when everything starts.

Even while typing this email, I had to restart the router 3 times to make sure is going somewhere.

Will one of you guys get this sorted out for me because I will be escalating this issue with the ACCOUNTS as I am not in the humour of paying a bill for something that I am not getting.
</blockquote>
After typing all that and clicked the submit button, I get the following page saying:
<blockquote>The RPC server is unavailable.</blockquote>
Are they for real?

With all thats going on in the world in these days, internet privacy is really what the world needs. We don't need spies, spooks, or governments looking over our shoulders. We can handle our own individualism and can maintain our daily lives without government oversight.

You are right about the sub-domain, in my case they are not properly setup by my hosting provider, so i moved the files to the main domain folder.

First I tried it with all the example code, but it did not work.
So i again stripped it to the bare necessities but it's still not working.

The right URLs this time are
http://www.16th-floor.nl/ajaxtest.html
and
http://www.16th-floor.nl/ajaxcontent.html
(I know this extension should php but then you wouldn't be able to read the code,
so there is a identical ajaxcontent.php and ajaxcontent.html.)

I must say I really do appreciate your quick help on an article almost 1 year old,
so i hope you haven't lost your patience with me yet ;)

I removed the code inserted into the "comment" as it contained your server path which should be the domain URL PATH.

You are trying to set this up on a sub-domain, so would you not be better just check on a new page in the main domain folder until you get it working?

Have a look at the example available and just because you don't need certain Javascript code, it doesn't mean the other code doesn't need it either.
Those are functions and they could be called from inside the other ones so leave it as it is until working then clean up what you thing you don't need.

Can't seem to be able to access your links above.
Is your sub-domain setup porperly?
Also Javascript has permission issues when used accross sub-domains (e.g. "domain.com" is not the same as "sub-domain.domain.com"

Thanks Louie.

I don't need the form bit, so I shortened the examples somewhat.
But know the loading image is displayed and nothin happens. So I think i cut out to much.
This is all new to me so would you check my code?

[CODE REMOVED]

I'm sure it's something small or stupid, but i'm staring myself dizzy, and just can't find the problem.

Yes it does. Cant'see why not.
Adding a submit button sorts out the "JavaScript" disabled issues

hello everybody. I answer every call of a withheld number, because I am not shy and it could be imprtant. My credit bank, the ge-money bank always calls withheld, but I don´t answer all calls, if the number is shown, because I am able to call back later. And it is useless to ignore withheld numbers, because it doesn´t protect against marketing call. The company I am working for is a market research institute, that sends a wrong number via voice over IP. If an person calls back, you hear:,, Welcome to the mailbox ofxxx.

I have to say, this is simply awesome! I've been searching for ages for a cascading dropdown example that would work, and I was nearly giving up until I found this one. Works beautifully with mySQL too, with a few changes! Thanks very much for sharing, man!

No.
On each page load, the code will check and compare the date from the stored file to the last modified date on the server and if not the same an email will be sent to the administrator - value stored in <b>$ewd_email</b> variable.

Hi, This is an interesting tool..

I have thought up many ideas that require the script to be ran every so often..

Do you set a cron job to do this for you say, once every hour or so??

Thanks.

Google maps doesn't allow ajax calls as the js script reside on their own server.
You need to find another way of displaying the map itself.

Hello, Your script is awesome but for some reasons it doesn't execute any javascript contents in a div or pages. Do you have a solution that can make javascript to work in a div?

for example:

onclick="page_load('index.php?p=viewmap','viewmap');

Some Javascript Contents

Please help me out. I'm trying to display a google map but map is not showing. When I call the page itself then it works. Is there a reason?

Thank You
Mike

I have never put an image in any of my posts. I tried it briefly a few weeks ago for the first time and I had similar problems. I have not looked at it since. I am going to try and resolve this over the weekend. Just in case you found the solution in advance of me I'd appreciate if you could let me know.
I'm fairly handy (for a wordpress amateur, having configured the blog and set up numerous plugins) with wordpress so I expected this to be very straight forward. Maybe it will prove to be yet.

Since I designed this system, I have few websites that I am conducting some studies on, making sure it works and is not just a waste of time.
Up to now I have one website that already ranks #1 in google.ie without any SEO to the page itself but just directory submission.
This url is about 2 years old and never got on the first page, but 3 weeks later after submitting to directories got to #1. What do you think about that.

<b>Hi all. A friend of mine got a useful service on her phone. It's on a contract phone so not sure if you can get it otherwise. It tells the caller to phone back with their number displayed. I know this is useless posting this because I do not have the site hand but I can post it when I get it. It's €2 a month</b>

Great blog, some informative and useful articles. With this example, I generally use the following:

<code>
body { margin: 0; padding: 0; }
#div_container { width: 800px; margin: 0 auto; }
</code>

This basically does the same thing as what you have done above, but without the two text-align attributes in the CSS code.

Keep up the good work with the blog.
Joe

"Graphics vs Coding".

I'm a half-decent coder and I really suck at graphics (mspaint here I come). Thankfully I have a <a href="http://www.logon.ie/about-us/" rel="nofollow">wizard</a> (Dimitar) to help me avoid embarrassment.

A lot of the time I don't answer them on my personal mobile. Thankfully the office line is screened so I get the choice - oftentimes I don't bother with aggressive sales calls.

btw, did you recent change the design here (or have I offended with my non-recognition of a long-time design)? :)

Ciaran, you are one of the lucky persons that has a receptionist available, but most small business doesn't and they do have to put up with this type of calls every day.

Talking about persistence, every day in the last week at exactly 09:10 - 09:15am I get a call from Eircom, trying to sell me a better package then the existing one I have, but I already said no to it, so why the repeat calls?

I do answer them as is doesn't come on Private number, but no anymore as I remember it now.

All our phones at work dial out from a withheld number, I find it quite handy in most case's especially to find out who just called you and where from etc, and seeing as its our business line we never need worry about the line dropping or credit like an individual would.

The other benefit I have is that very few people have my direct dial and most of my calls come screened through the receptionist :)

That's a good one as well.
I used to ask them to call me back later, and same next time than again and again until they give up.

some times I'll answer, but normally I don't answer with my name, I'll just say like "hello" and wait for their response. As some of these marketers get extra money for adding in details that they find out about you.

Sometimes I'll answer and once I know it's a marketer, I will put down the phone and put them on mute :D
